A well-known variety of jaboticaba is Plinia Trunciflora. The long peduncles with the 1-4 huge seeds, short juvenile period developing fruit at just 4-6 years of age from seed, costate ribs on the fruit, and large lanceolate leaves are the main distinguishing characteristics. The flat, dark-green leaves are dull-shaded, with a very slight crease along the primary vein, and have an impressed primary nerve with small secondary pinnate veins.

The globose fruit has five to twenty light green or bronze costate ribs, although these ribs get smaller as the fruit ripens until they may disappear entirely in fully mature fruit. When they stop projecting, these costate ribs frequently keep their light green color, which forms a stunning contrast of light green streaks across an otherwise red fruit (this appearance is the cultivar's most distinctive trait. On the apex of the fruit, there are frequently insignificant sepal fragments that can be readily removed or consumed along with the fruit. The fruit's connection to the peduncle can vary, especially as it grows in clusters of up to six fruits, from a slight nipple to a noticeably prominent rostrate point. The fruit has 2-4 substantial seeds and its sweet juicy pulp is of excellent quality and similar to other jaboticabas
