The pomegranate is a fruit-bearing deciduous shrub in the family Lythraceae, subfamily Punicoideae, that grows between 5 and 10 m tall. The pomegranate is rich in symbolic and mythological associations in many cultures

The pomegranate (Punica granatum) tree has many uses, including medicinal, culinary, and other uses:

Medicinal
The fruit, flowers, bark, roots, and leaves of the pomegranate tree contain chemicals that can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including digestive disorders, skin disorders, intestinal parasites, ulcers, diarrhea, and hemorrhoids. Pomegranate flowers are used in Unani and Ayurvedic medicine, and are antidiabetic. Modern research suggests that pomegranates may also help prevent conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, and improve wound healing. However, further research is needed to support these finding

  • Culinary
Pomegranate seeds can be eaten whole or juiced, and added to salads, cereal, yogurt, or used to decorate dishes like chiles en nogada. Pomegranate leaves can be used as a salad green, in smoothies or juice, or as a spinach substitute in curries, pasta sauces, and soups. They can also be used to make leaf tea, fresh or dried
    Other uses
The hard, pale-yellow wood of the pomegranate tree can be used to make decorative walking sticks, small cooking utensils, and ornamental bowls. The bark of the tree was traditionally used in Morocco to cure leather, and in Japan it's still used to make insecticide.
